All Turtles All the Time.

Geoffrey and I got to spend a day with a veterinarian today! One Dr. Rob, the father of a girl in Geoff's class, offered this up as a prize in a silent auction for Halifax Independent School. My parents bid on it, won, and gave it to Geoff and I as a graduation present!

It was awesome. We got to watch as dogs got shots and got their teeth cleaned. We met a constipated cat, who by the way was in a bit of a foul mood. We 'helped' identify whether a tumor on a particular canine was benign and fatty in nature or cancerous (luckily benign), and looked at slides of blood and urine under the microscope. My favourite part was after lunch, when Dr. Rob showed us archived x-rays and we had to figure out what the problem was! Looking back at what I've written, this looks more like a fifth grade field trip than anything else, but it really was fun, and I'm thinking maaaaybe veterinary school?

Just as we were leaving, three turtles were brought in all at once. One had a hole in it's shell, and one had been hit by a car, her shell held together only by the miracle of duct tape. I'm not sure what was wrong with the big lake turtle, but he smelled pretty ripe, so we left him alone in his box. Plus he was snappy.

Let me clarify. Snappy as in 'he tried to bite us', not as in 'well dressed'. Just in case there was some confusion.

These turtles, however, ARE well dressed.

p.s.: I LOVE turtles.

The Experience of a Lifetime

EEEEEEEEEP! I JUST FOUND OUT THAT I AM ACTUALLY GOING ON THE TALL SHIP UNICORN FOR TWO WEEKS! I got the scholarship afterall! I am too excited to talk. Too excited to write much more than this. I feel like I'm going to burst! I leave for the Great Lakes on July 31st!

Day Six and Onwards (Rolling Stones Gather No Moss)

Day Five (Birthday Cake and Sealskin Shoes)

Day Four (A Stylish Marriage)

Day Four (KK Day)

Day of the wedding! In the morning, to pass the time, we went to a discount store called KK. I got a huge box of pens for $9 and a microwave for residence (only $35)!!!

Now back at the house, going to get ready!

Day Three (Let's Go Gorge Tubing!)

Today we visited the town of Elora, not far from Waterloo. Mom managed to find a store that sold cauliflower and broccoli chips, as well as asparagus salsa. Not sure if they'll be any good, but I'm game to try them...
Elora is beautiful, full of old style architecture. It is surrounded by farms and Mennonite communities.

Downtown Elora

Then we went tubing in the river in a nearby park. Very fun. Afterwards we were really hungry, so we went to St Jacobs for lunch, where I found an excellent discount bookstore. I bought one called Making Angels.

After we got back to Aunt Elaine and Uncle Dan's the rest of our family finally arrived. So, currently staying at there house with three bedrooms and one bathroom are: Aunt Elaine, Unlce Dan, Matt, Erika, Rob, Frances, Mom, Dad, Geoff, Me, Aunt Linda, Uncle Steven, Stephanie and Susanne. Oh, and one dog and two cats. Even with the tent trailer it's a little squishy...

Can't wait for the wedding tomorrow!

Day Two (Meeting Miss Frances)

We left Levis at around ten or so. It's about halfway between home and Waterloo, where my Aunt Elaine and Uncle Dan live, so another ten hours today. When we arrived, my Aunt Elaine and their dog, Emma, were waiting outside for us. My cousin Matt was there too, and in his arms was wee Frances. She is too beautiful for words. Such a calm baby, with sweet little smiles. She never cries. It was good to see a doggie again too. I was going through Winnie withdrawal...

Rob and Erika (Her mum and da) think her hair might be coming in red! First ginger in the family since Geoff and I!

That evening we went for a walk in downtown Waterloo and bought some gelato. Mmmm...gelato...and Geoffrey visited the bar where the TV show 'Dan for Mayor' was shot.

Day One (Quebec)

I always forget how much I love this city. In fact, Quebec and Halifax are tied as favourites. Someday, I tell myself, when I know what I want to do, and I've made some decent money doing it, I will have an apartment in Old Quebec, or maybe a townhouse if I'm lucky. Or not. Who knows where I'll end up in time? But it is a lovely place to visit.

Day One (Three Provinces, Two Thunder Storms, One Looong Day).

Ten hours of driving after getting up at five or six? I have to admit, I was not the happiest of campers. But I was able to sleep for a good amount of time, and I had my music. Who can be grumpy listening to Joel Plaskett? Not me! :)

Okay, so it was ten hours of beautiful scenery listening to good music. Overall it was relaxing.

White Wedding

My cousin Josh is getting married to his long-time girlfriend Jill on Friday! We are heading over to Ontario for the wedding.

The dog is at Grandma's house, the sandwiches are made (we always eat brown bag lunches the first day of road trips) and my mp3 player is crammed full of new songs. Because I love my family, and I don't want to tear Geoffrey's head off when we leave at 6:30 am and he's all chipper and I'm...well...not, I plan to spend much of my car-time using the aforementioned device.

We're spending the first night in LĂ©vis, just across the St-Laurence River from Old Quebec. Then on to Kitchener Ontario, where we are staying with my Aunt Elaine and Uncle Dan. Our last stop before heading for home is Ottawa. Neither Geoffrey nor I have ever been to the nation's capital, so we're pretty excited.

p.s. I have my camera. Not to worry. I know you were.

Kite-Boarding

Here are some pics of the kite-boarders at Lawrencetown. I had never seen this before...I think I'm in love.

I so want to try this at some point.

Happy Kids Day! Oh yeah, and Canada Day too.

When Geoffrey and I were little, we thought it was very unfair that our parents got 'Mother's Day' and 'Father's Day'. Eventually we whined enought that they decided to invent 'Kids Day'. This was instead of gradeing gifts, but we didn't know that.

They declaired that Kids Day would be July 1st. Also known in this part of the world as Canada Day. We didn't know that either. But it meant they got the day off each year to spend with us.

This year, since I'm still effecively contagious, we just went to Lawrencetown Beach. It's still really cold, too cold to swim without wetsuits, so there weren't a lot of people.

Then Dad got fish and chips from John's Lunch in Dartmouth for supper. Best fish and chips in Nova Scotia, at least in our opinion.
