Remember, Remember, the Fifth of November...

Those lines always haunted me when I was little. I didn't know where they were from for a long time. I thought Remembrance Day was on the fifth probably until I was nine. I still don't know a lot about Guy Fawkes, or the bonfires in England. But I like the poetry of them all the same.

It's raining hard tonight. If anyone tried to light bonfires in Halifax, I think they're probably having a hard time. Geoff and I took the dog for a walk this afternoon in the downpour. Our whole walk was spent discussing the motto for Playdough and applying it to various other objects:
Zombies! (Fun to play with, not to eat.)
Shoe Polish! (Fun to play with, not to eat.)
Dust Bunnies! (Fun to play with, not to eat.)
Poison! (Fun to play with, not to eat.)
You get the idea. It was most amusing.

Tonight we watched 'V for Vendetta' for the first time on a whim. Didn't know it had anything to do with November 5th. How's that for a freaky coincidence? In other news, it's now one of my favourite movies.

In conclusion: Happy Guy Fawkes Day from a girl who has never been to England and whose entire knowledge of the holiday comes from two lines of a poem, the aforementioned movie, and the old computer game 'Pink Panther: Passport to Peril', which actually had a huge impact on my formative years. (This perhaps explains a lot...'I can't believe it's not yak butter!')
